As an artist participating in Transformatorio Lab 2021 in Cosio, my project vision was centred around a unique and intriguing concept—an exploration of self-expression, creativity, and play through the use of empty boxes. This artistic journey was guided by the lab's technical theme for 2021: "in presence, in absence, in between." It unfolded as an exploration of the unknown, a deep dive into the realms of creativity and play, and a journey into the depths of self-expression.
At its core, my project was rooted in collaboration, embodying the principle that art is not a solitary endeavour but a participatory creation that thrives through relationships and partnerships with others. It was driven by an insatiable curiosity, a yearning to connect with others, and a willingness to listen to the subtle whispers of the relational field.
This project posed profound questions: Could we transcend physical distance to forge meaningful connections? Could we exist in a space beyond our perceived capabilities? Or was our quest for connection merely a transactional need for validation? Throughout this transformative odyssey, I remained steadfast in my commitment to staying present and open, ready to embrace the unknown with open arms. The Transformatorio project provided the canvas for this exploration—a canvas adorned with a symphony of emotions, ranging from moments of darkness and worry to waves of joy and love. These emotions were skillfully interwoven through intuitive communication and collaborative awareness with Cosio. My project's grand vision was to employ empty boxes as a medium to ignite the intuitive and imaginative aspects of individuals in Cosio. It was an endeavour into the uncharted realms of the human mind, a space where creativity, self-expression, and play could flourish. However, fate had a different plan, leading the artistic voyage in an unexpected direction.
A physical presence in Cosio remained an elusive dream, and the project continued to evolve in the ethereal realm of the unseen. In the midst of this uncertainty, a captivating archetype emerged—an entity known as 'Flipper.' In the liminal space where ideas floated freely, Flipper surfaced as a symbol—a simple, ancient, yet profoundly futuristic sea creature. Flipper beckoned me to explore the duality of existence, the simultaneous coexistence of good and bad, yin and yang, within the intricate tapestry of human nature. Inspired by Nietzsche's profound words, "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes into you," the archetype of Flipper emerged as a Cosio clown from the depths of the abyss—a mirror reflecting the comedy of survival. Flipper revealed the art of finding curiosity within chaos, the ability to perceive order within disorder. It became the embodiment of the inner clown, inviting us all to play with the ordinary facets of life. In the absence of physical presence, 'Two Dots,' a poignant poem, became a bridge between Absentia and Presencia—an artistic endeavour that transcended geographical boundaries. It was a performance that resonated in Alle Orthiche, Genoa, serving as a testament to my unwavering connection with the essence of Cosio and the transformative power of self-expression, creativity, and play. This artistic journey, meticulously guided by Ksenija Kadić, urges us to contemplate the spaces beyond our perceived capabilities, to question the nature of existence, and to recognize the profound beauty in embracing the unknown. It serves as a reminder that art, in all its forms, is a conduit for self-expression, creativity, and play—an avenue through which we can delve deeper into the recesses of our own souls.
